Love Under Examination
What does the true love of God really look like?
In today’s culture, many define God’s love as tolerance without accountability, while others portray it as truth without compassion. But neither extreme reflects the love revealed in Scripture. If we want to understand divine love correctly, we must look to Jesus Christ, the perfect embodiment of God’s love.
In this message from John 8:1–11, Pastor Marc Williamson examines the powerful moment when a woman caught in adultery was brought before Jesus. In this dramatic scene, truth and mercy collide, the Law demands justice, and God’s love is placed under intense examination.
As the accusers stand ready with stones and the guilty sinner stands in shame, Christ reveals what divine love truly looks like. His response exposes hypocrisy, upholds righteousness, extends mercy to the repentant, and ultimately points to the cost of forgiveness that would be paid at the cross.
This message highlights several truths about the love of God:
God’s love is conscious of sin but chooses to love sinners
God’s love is righteous and just, never ignoring truth
God’s love is gracious and merciful to the repentant
God’s love is sacrificial, paying the cost of forgiveness
God’s love is sanctifying, calling sinners to a transformed life
Jesus’ words to the woman still echo today:
“Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” – John 8:11 (KJV)
This passage challenges many modern misconceptions about love and reminds believers that the love of Christ is both holy and compassionate, truthful and merciful, and always transforming.
