His Bitter Cup, Our Blessed Cup

In Matthew 26:36–46, we are brought into the Garden of Gethsemane—a place of deep sorrow, intense prayer, and complete surrender. Here, Jesus faced the overwhelming reality of the cross as He anticipated bearing the sins of the world and drinking the cup of God’s wrath.

Though there was no struggle at His arrest or crucifixion, there was a great internal battle in the garden. In this sacred moment, Christ prayed three times, submitting His will fully to the Father: “Not as I will, but as thou wilt.”

This message highlights the depth of Christ’s suffering, the meaning of the cup in Scripture, and the victory He secured through prayer. Because Jesus drank the bitter cup of judgment, we are offered the blessed cup of redemption through His blood.
