An Ancient Promise Kept Through Abraham

Sep 7, 2025    Pastor Marc Williamson

Genesis doesn’t just tell us where the world began—it reveals how God’s plan to save sinners unfolds. Today we follow Abraham from an unexpected calling to an impossible promise, and discover why the greatest gift is not land or lineage, but the Lord Himself.

Message Highlights

The Calling of Abraham (Gen 12:1–3): Pure grace—God seeks an idolater and promises a land, a nation, and blessing to all families of the earth.

The Complication (Gen 12:4–8; 15:1–5): No child, no way—so God emphasizes His power and His presence: “I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.”

The Crediting of Righteousness (Gen 15:6): Abraham believed the Lord, and God counted it to him for righteousness—justification by faith that points us to Christ.

Kept in Christ (cf. John 8:56; Gal/Rom): Abraham rejoiced to see Christ’s day; the promised Seed fulfills the blessing to the nations.

Key Scriptures (KJV):

Genesis 12:1–3; 12:7–8; 15:1–6; 15:18; 22 (the promised Seed)

Psalm 40:5; John 8:56; 2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus is the promised blessing—our righteousness, by grace through faith.
