For All He's Done

We know from Hebrews 10:5–9, which quotes Psalm 40:6–8 & applies the passage to Christ, that this a Messianic psalm. In other words, through David’s own personal experience which he wrote of, he gave a prophetic glimpse of the coming Christ, His life, experience, & ministry. So, what you have in Messianic passages such as this are dual applications. You see the writer’s personal experience & then you also see that his experience was a prophetic type or foreshadow of Christ which has now been fulfilled. So, first of all, this psalm was penned by the psalmist David about & his needs, & the situation he found himself in, & how the Lord delivered him. Now, the historical setting is not clear. David may have written it during his difficult exile years when King Saul was pursuing him to kill him, or perhaps during the early years of his reign (he was in many conflicts & battles), or when his son revolted against him, assembled an army to fight him, & David had to flee Jerusalem again for his life. From whatever experiences led to the writing of this psalm, David learned some valuable lessons & gave us 3 important instructions to follow, even in the difficult times of life, for all that GOD has done.
