The Old Testament Hope of Resurrection
When we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus every Sunday & on the Easter holiday, it should not be without engaging in a deeply meaningful meditation of Scripture. Many people think that the hope of resurrection from the dead is an exclusively New Testament hope. But if you will study your Bible, you’ll find it has its roots in the Old Testament. That’s why Paul, when declaring the gospel to the Corinthians, said, “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; And that He was buried, & that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” When Paul referenced the Scriptures, he was referring to the Old Testament because there wasn’t a completed New Testament. The death & resurrection of Christ was firmly established in prophecy & picture in the OT.
