The Death Of A Saint And A Soul

This morning, as we return to our study of the life & ministry of Jesus, we come to a solemn text which details the murder of John the Baptist. Scholars tell us that this event occurred at the close of Jesus’ second year of ministry. It’s not by chance that at the end of the Lord Jesus’ second year of ministry & as He begins His final year that He & His disciples receive the report that John was unjustly put to death. The death of Christ’s Forerunner providentially

foreshadowed what awaited Christ at the close of His ministry. The news of John’s death would bring Christ personal sorrow & also increase the weight upon His mind about His own impending death which He constantly bore.
