The Fall of The Royal Family

Each of the last four Judean monarchs was a bad king, & each met a horrible fate. The historical order after godly Josiah was: Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, & Zedekiah. But, since Jeremiah is speaking to Zedekiah (the last king), he’ll address him first & then recount the prophetic messages that were given to the other kings in the order of their succession. So, notice, first of all, the message given to Zedekiah about the responsibilities he has due to his position as king. The LORD is essentially highlighting his great failure as king & exposing why the kingdom of Judah will fall & the Davidic kingship will be interrupted.
