LORD of The Nations – The Judgment of Moab
As we return to our study of the Book of Jeremiah let me remind you that when GOD called Jeremiah that He commissioned him to be a prophet to the nations of the world.
Jer 1:4 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Jer 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I
sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Because Judah was GOD’s covenant nation, His chosen people, the largest portion of Jeremiah’s preaching & writings were directed to the Jewish people (c.2-45). However, the LORD GOD is sovereign over all nations. Therefore, if GOD would judge His own covenant people for their sin, how could the other, godless, Gentile nations around Judah hope to escape GOD’s judgment when their sins were even more prominent. Well, GOD does not turn His eye to sin, not anyone’s, thus, in chapters 46–51, Jeremiah shifts the spotlight of GOD’s judgment from Judah to her Gentile neighbors.
