As Jeremiah concludes his message to King Zedekiah, we are reminded that GOD’s Judgment of sin is not only a Jewish problem, but it is also a Gentile problem. As we shall see, the majority of this chapter speaks of divine judgment upon the Gentiles, upon all the nations of the earth, as well as the Jews. The opening verses of chapter 25 speak of the severe fury that GOD would unleash upon Judah for its sins & stubborn refusal to repent of sin & return to the exclusive worship of the LORD GOD. And GOD informed the Jewish people that He would use Babylon as His agent to execute His judgment. When Babylon was through with Judah, the land would lie in desolation & ruin, & the survivors would be carried away as exiles to serve a divine 70-year prison sentence. Verses 12 through 14 then describe how that after the 70-year captivity GOD would judge Babylon for its own sins. At this point in the message, GOD now turns His attention to the Gentile nations. Because GOD is holy & just, these other nations & peoples were not exempted from the same type of judgment the people of Judah experienced. GOD is no respecter of persons & therefore sin is punished no matter who the sinner is.
