Family Convictions

The message in chapter 35 was given during the reign of Jehoiakim (609–598 B.C.)—at least 11 to 20 years earlier than the prophecies given in chapter 34. Jeremiah breaks the chronology of the book to contrast the faithfulness of the Rechabite family with the unfaithfulness of the people of Judah at the present. On the surface, this chapter may seem irrelevant to our day, but as we shall see, it is very applicable to the age we live in. In this chapter, we find a family that refused to conform to society. They took stands that had long been considered old-fashioned & outdated. Yet, they held to their convictions despite living in an extremely wicked culture.
