The Merciful Savior

The miracle we’re looking at this morning is significant for at least two reasons. 1.) It pictures the mercy of GOD in salvation. I’ll point out the symbolism as we move through the text. 2.) GOD used this divinely arranged incident (the healing of a certain man on the Sabbath) to set the wheels in motion for the crucifixion of His Son. You see, it was this single event that lit the fuse of the religious leaders’ aggression towards Jesus. Look back at verse 16.

Joh 5:16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these
things on the sabbath day.
