The Call of Jesus’ Disciples to Salvation
In this passage, John recounts the events of 4 consecutive days, based on his own personal observation. On the first day, beginning in vs.19, John the Baptist announced that the Messiah was coming & he was simply preparing His way. On the second day (v.29), John identified Jesus as the Lamb of GOD come to take away the sin of the world & as the Messiah. On the third (v.35) & fourth days (v.43), Jesus called His first 5 disciples to salvation. This was their conversion story which should not be confused with their calling to fulltime ministry (Mtt.4).
With each encounter, there is the presentation of truth, an initial response from the hearer, & then a decision to believe & follow. And while this pattern is consistent, the way each comes to Christ is as different as their personalities. So, let’s begin our study of these different conversion accounts of Jesus’ disciples.
